Help pregnant Asmaa and her husband Mohammed survive a genocide
Australia
Imagine you’re expecting your first child. Instead of decorating a nursery or preparing a crib, you’re living in a tent on a dirt floor, surrounded by the constant threat of bombings. This is the harsh reality for Mohammed and Asmaa, a young couple in Gaza who are six months pregnant with their son Musaab, and urgently need our help to find safety.
Mohammed and Asmaa are currently living in a fragile tent in Al-Mawasi, an area recently devastated by bombings. They’re sleeping on the ground, exposed to the cold, and the conditions are far from safe or sanitary. Asmaa has already been feeling unwell due to malnutrition, the winter chill and the unsanitary conditions, which put both her and her unborn baby at serious risk.
Mohammed, too, is in urgent need of care. He was previously injured in a bombing, and without proper medical treatment, his health and ability to care for his family are compromised.
The situation they face is dire, and their time is running out. They dream of a safe life for their child, away from the constant sounds of explosions and the fear that grips their every moment.
With your help, we can make this dream a reality. We are committed to matching every dollar donated up to $5,000 AUD, doubling the impact of each contribution.
$20 – Provide Asmaa with 1 nutritious meal $62 – Provides Asmaa and Mohammed with 1 day of fresh food $124 – Provides 2 days of fresh food for Asmaa and Mohammed $500 – Provides 1 week of fresh food, including fruits and vegetables
Together, we can give this young family a chance to live with dignity, health, and hope. Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and for helping us change their future.
Dear donors,
Asmaa and Mohammed have asked me to provide you with an update and pass on their sincere thanks to you all for your generous support. They are still incredibly overwhelmed by the recent groundswell of support for them and their unborn son Musab.
They have recently been able to use the money from the campaign to purchase food, and they have started setting aside a small amount for the arrival of their son to buy him clothes and a crib.
However, they were also recently contacted by a displaced family nearby who were in desperate need to help. They are a family of 7 with children ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old. The family do not have phones or access to the internet, and so have no means to raise funds themselves. The family desperarely needed a tent and winter clothes to survive the harsh winter rain and cold.
Although Asmaa and Mohammed are themselves struggling, they consider themselves the lucky ones as they are receiving some support from you all. They feel a duty to provide for those less fortunate and are generously doing everything they can to help this family.
Please continue to support Asmaa and Mohammed if you are able, and share their campaign with your friends and family. They are incredibly kind and generous people who give any extra they have to those in need. By supporting them, you are also providing support to those in need without a voice. Thank you for your support.
Yesterday, Asmaa attended a check up at the clinic. Her blood was tested and she was diagnosed with anemia and lymphopenia granulocytosis. She requires treatment, which she has been told will cost $150 USD.
With the commission added on top, the treatment total will come to approximately $200 USD.
Thank you to all who have donated already. If you are able to give again to help Asmaa obtain treatment, that would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate at this time, please share Asmaa’s campaign with your friends and family.
Thank you so much!
This morning I transferred the available balance of the campaign ($446.85 AUD) to Mohammed via PayPal, as he is in urgent need of food.
This equates to $265.80 USD after PayPal fees, and Mohammed will lose 25-35% of this money from commission charged by the merchants. Unfortunately, this is the reality of their life and there is no other way they can purchase items, so they must pay the unfair commission.
With a bag of flour costing upwards of $250 USD, this money will sadly not stretch very far.
The campaign balance is now $0.
I am desperately trying to come up with a solution to provide Mohammed and Asmaa with the funds they need to evacuate when the crossing opens. For me, this will require going into debt if we do not raise the donations, because I simply cannot rest until I know they can evacuate.
I tell you this only to raise the point that, even if I can get the money to help them evacuate (and this is by no means guaranteed), Mohammed and Asmaa still need regular donations to survive day to day. They still need to eat, and Asmaa needs iron supplements to keep herself and her unborn son healthy.
I know that it is a difficult time of year, and everyone has been hurt by the cost of living. But I beg of you to please, in this season of giving, reflect on the message of this holiday season. I am asking you, perhaps unfairly, to make a sacrifice and know that you will have helped feed someone who desperately needs it.
Please, if you have anything to give, even $5, please gift it to Mohammed and Asmaa. We really need to increase donations, and if you can commit to giving $5, $10, $20 per week or fortnight, regular donations would really help us.
I keep a record of all transactions and transfers, and I am happy to share my campaign records with any donors for transparency. I also have copies of Mohammed and Asmaa’s identity documents.
Mohammed and Asmaa are verified with the Butterfly Effect Project and their line number is 1146. You can find the Butterfly Effect Project on Instagram to learn more about their work and what verification means.
